Call for Writers: National Youth Theatre & Compass Collective Commission
National Youth Theatre and Compass Collective are seeking a writer to collaborate with a company of young people (ages 18-30) on a coming-of-age story. This new work will be developed as part of a festival of bold new writing, taking place at NYT from 7-26 July 2025.
The selected writer will work closely with Compass Collective Associate Artist Eleanor Henderson, who will direct the piece. This opportunity includes a short play commission and fees for both development and rehearsal attendance. The writer will co-create a work-in-progress production alongside a company of Compass Collective and NYT members, culminating in up to three performances at NYT’s Workshop Theatre in July 2025.
Who We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in hearing from writers who:
Have lived experience of being a refugee or seeking asylum.
Have experience leading a collaborative and responsive writing process, or working with co-creation methods.
Are excited to work with a diverse company of 12-16 young people from Compass Collective and NYT.
While the piece does not have a fixed theme, we aim to develop a coming-of-age story that reflects the experiences and cultural identities of the young company.
