Calling Across Borders

Ping! Texts, whatsapps, video calls, phone calls… calls across continents are a lifeline for separated children. We leap borders and can be united with those we left behind. Watch a short film in which young refugees and asylum seekers leave voicemail messages to those whom they would most like to speak.

Supported by AHRC, Dr Sarah Jackson collaborated with Compass Collective to work with eight young people seeking sanctuary. Hear their real voices and stories in an inspiring audio recording, beautifully animated by Maria Belik. Sound design by Rosie Ash, this short film gives insight into the lives of these displaced, yet resilient young people who are making the UK their new home. It will leave you moved and inspired.
